Desperate HousewivesHere’s an interesting theory on why the ratings for many returning dramas are down a bit: the writers strike gave viewers an excuse to finally stop watching a show.

Of course, the shows that are down (including Grey’s Anatomy, Home, Lost, CSI, and Desperate Housewives) are still getting great ratings (all of the above shows are usually in the top 15 for the week), they’re just noticeably down. Some industry analysts think that viewers might be getting a little frustrated at the continuing storylines you see on many dramas, while others think that some viewers are confused over the return dates for different shows and maybe even time slot changes for a couple of shows.

Harris and SeymourMany people think that the term “cougar,” which is loosely defined as “older woman on the prowl for younger men to date” was introduced on last season’s How I Met Your Mother episode that had Jane Seymour seduce Neil Patrick Harris’ Barney. But like I stated in my review back then, I had heard that term before that episode aired. But we have the ability to definitely state that HIMYM popularized the term.

Now it seems like Television Land, which is becoming the network for reality shows starring people over 35, has decided to pick up a Bachelorette-esque series where a number of young men will be competing for the affections of “sexy and accomplished mature woman.” The show is being produced by Mike Fleiss, who was the executive producer for the network’s version of High School Reunion.

Damon WayansABC is turning back to an old favorite, hoping to rekindle some comic magic for the network. Funny, irreverent and — two snaps and a swish — occasionally brilliant comic Damon Wayans has been tapped by ABC for a new single-camera sitcom pilot called Never Better. Damon starred as a family man in the five-year hit My Wife and Kids, doing a Cosby-esque turn from 2001-2005.

The new show, Never Better, is being directed by Marc Buckland (My Name Is Earl, Ed) and centers on another family man, only in this incarnation, Damon is a guy who’s struggling to be a good dad and spouse despite his flaws and mistakes.
