Mad Men CDAMC has announced that the critically-acclaimed drama Mad Men will return for a second season on July 27, in its new Sunday at 10pm time slot. This moves it away from another hit cable show, Burn Notice, which is staying in its Thursday at 10 time slot, but puts it up against Lifetime’s Army Wives (and, for the record, network shows like ABC’s Brothers & Sisters)

I don’t really see this as a bad thing. People record and watch shows at all different times now, and besides, a lot of hip cable shows have been successful on Sunday nights (The Sopranos, Deadwood, etc). AMC will also have a marathon of the first season’s 13 episodes on July 20.

In other news, a soundtrack from the show will be released on June 22, and the first season DVDs will be in stores on July 1.

What do you think of the move?

Rowan and Martin promote Savings Bonds to support the troops in VietnamHere’s an interesting little film short that I saw on Turner Classic Movies earlier this week. It features Dan Rowan and the recently departed Dick Martin, stars of the 60s psychedelic sketch comedy Laugh-In, promoting the sale of the new U.S. Savings Bonds called Freedom Shares, which were introduced back around 1967. If you were an avid fan of the NBC comedy you would recognize the back-and-forth between these two — Rowan was the straight man to funny man Martin — as they discussed the benefits of these bonds to the movie-going public.

The video is after the jump.

Shirley MansonLooky there. With just those seven tiny words The Sarah Connor Chronicles has become the show I’m most looking forward to next season. With music, there’s nothing I like more than putting a little Garbage on the turntable. Because of that, over the years I’ve become just a little bit obsessed with Shirley Manson. And now comes word that the lovely and talented Miss Manson has been signed to the show.

Just that is enough to make me watch, but it gets even better. This isn’t a musical guest like someone stopping by to play at P3 or the Montecito. Oh no, Shirley will join the cast in a regular role as Catherine Weaver, CEO of a high-tech company. One could certainly argue that it’s stunt casting, or that they could find a more qualified actor to take on such a massive role. But any crazy argument like that will fall on deaf ears here pal. It’s Shirley Manson. That’s all I need to know.

SpongeBobHere are the weekly cable ratings, by number of viewers.

OK, we get it, everybody in the country watched basketball last week, except for the hardcore wrestling fans who assured that Monday Night RAW got into the mix again under enormous pressure (and both hours!). I also find it cool that SpongeBob manages to get into the top 10. The guy has more power than Oprah and Donald Trump combined.
