So You Think You Can Dance

Here are the weekly Television ratings, by number of viewers.

Summer is a funny time for Television ratings. You’re not quite sure what’s going to be in the mix, just that’s it’s going to be a mix of new shows and repeats. This isn’t a big surprise, but it which repeats that make the list. CBS seems to be dominating the summer, with repeats of CSI, CSI: Miami, CSI: NY, Two and a Half Men, Without a Trace, Criminal Minds, Rules of Engagement, and 60 Minutes taking up many spots in the top 20. The top show with new episodes is also a CBS show, Million Dollar Password.

1. NBA Finals - Game 5 (ABC)
2. NBA Finals - Game 3 (ABC)
3. NBA Finals - Game 4 (ABC)

Factory - SpikeWith our ever expanding channel lineups it is getting harder and harder for a new show, especially one tucked away on cable with no large name stars attached, to get noticed. Seeing a network release a show on the web before the premiere isn’t new, but seeing one release a pilot on P2P networks with no DRM is a bit more original. And that’s just what the folks over at Spike have done with their new show, Factory.

The network has made the show available on its website, at downloadable video stores like iTunes, and in working with the Jun group, on P2P networks. Even though my first reaction at the mention of Limewire was surprise that people are still using Limewire, I do agree with their thinking behind the move. Todd Ames, marketing VP at Spike, stated they went with the P2P as an acknowledgment of “what people are really doing, and the way consumers are really looking for content.” He also notes that there are no plans to make any additional episodes available that way, but it’s a step in the right direction that they’re paying attention to the viewers.

Tom Colichio American Idol does it. So You Think You Can Dance does it. Dancing with the Stars does it. And now, Top Chef will hit the road on a nationwide tour. Top Chef? Really? It’s true. Beginning June 21st, the popular Bravo show will embark on a twenty-city tour. The tour will begin on Long Island at the Whole Foods market in Jericho. Top Chef on wheels will feature a customized 18-wheeler semi-truck and “will offer Bravo’s passionate fans and cable affiliate partners with the one-of-a-kind chance to experience the hit series in their hometowns.”

Here’s how it will work. In each city, select “chef-testants” from the hit show will do cooking demonstrations, give out gourmet tips, share show secrets and offer food tastings all from the monster truck which includes a state-of-the-art kitchen and can accommodate 38 guests per seating. Every one else can watch from HD screens.

Tour dates are after the jump. Top Chef might be pulling up to a farmers market or food festival near you. What do you think? Does this sound like something you’d go to?

AMC logoAmerican Motion picture Classics is really getting into original scripted programming, eh?

First the network brought us Mad Men and Breaking Bad, two of the most critically-acclaimed shows from last year, and now it has been announced that AMC has two more dramas in the works. The first one is Carter Beats The Devil, about a mysterious magician in the 1920s, and the other show is Ice, which is about the inside goings-on at a family owned diamond company in New York City.

I have no idea what Ice could be like (though with AMC’s track record I’ll definitely be watching), but I am familiar with Carter Beats The Devil. The show is based on a really intriguing novel from Glen David Gold, and Gold is going to work on the show as a consultant, so hopefully the series will have the same color and intelligence and mystery that the book had.
