Morgan, Osbourne, Hasselhoff

Here are the weekly TV ratings, by number of viewers.

A little behind the scenes info about the making of this post. When I started to type the #16 entry, my eye drifted to the #17 entry and I actually started to type Are You Smarter Than The Bachelorette? Which got me thinking that we could probably create other TV shows from this list, if the networks are looking for new ideas. How about America’s Got Bones? Two and Half 60 Million? CSI: So You Think You Can Dance?

1. NBA Finals - Game 6 (ABC)
2. America’s Got Talent (NBC)

Regis Philbin and Neil Patrick HarrisCBS has ordered six more episodes of Million Dollar Password. This is probably because the show, hosted by Regis Philbin, has become extremely popular. Over four broadcasts, Million Dollar Password put first in ratings in its time period. It also placed first among adults 18-49 and adults 25-54. The show is averaging 9.46 million viewers. Looks like CBS has the right idea with ordering up some more.

A few weeks ago, Joel talked about the appeal of Password. Perhaps, it’s the celebrities they secured to come play: Neil Patrick Harris, Rachel Ray, Betty White, Tony Hawk and Rosie O’Donnell. But I think it’s the power of the Regis. Everything that man touches turns to gold. Remember the craze that accompanied Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? I can’t hear that theme music and envision the dramatic lights even now as I write this.

Million Dollar Password airs Sundays at 8 p.m. on CBS. Are you hooked enough to watch six more episodes?

Simon Cowell will produce One ChanceSimon Cowell is producing One Chance at Paramount. The film will be about Paul Potts, the opera singer who competed on Britain’s Got Talent. The performance on the show was his last effort at a music career. Potts, a cell phone salesman, had hit a streak of bad luck and only auditioned on BGT in 2007 on a whim. He ended up blowing away the judges, Cowell one of them. Potts won the show, went on an international music tour, and released an album.

Justin Zackman, the scribe from The Bucket List, will write the screenplay. Zackman is also working on Planetwalker, an environmental drama for Universal.

This is the American Idol judge’s studio debut. Cowell is also working on a project about a musical reality show called Star Struck. I wonder if that’ll be anything like American Dreamz which starred Mandy Moore and Hugh Allow.

The video of Paul’s audition for Britain’s Got Talent is after the jump.

burn notice with bruce campbell
Miami in June is hot. Very hot. On the set of Burn Notice, however, everything is cool. In fact, when I arrive at the Coconut Grove studios where the USA spy drama is shot, I find myself smack dab in the middle of a full-fledged film studio.

The old convention center, where I remember going to an indoor flea market in the late 1970s, has been absolutely transformed. There are trailers, production offices, standing sets, all geared up and working to bring Burn Notice back for season two.

Bethenny FrankelShe doesn’t exactly come off as a Martha Stewart-esque homemaker on the show but Bethenny Frankel really knows her way around the kitchen. The star of Bravo’s Real Housewives of New York City has launched her own line of baked goods. The NYC cougar is bringing us vegan cupcakes and other healthy desserts. The line is called Bethenny Bakes and she launched her new company at the Bridge Market Food Emporium in Manhattan on Sunday. Some of the products include lemon cupcakes, banana oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, fudge chocolate chip muffins, and blueberry muffins. There is no word on whether or not these will be in stores outside of New York.

I wonder if these treats actually taste good. More importantly, I wonder if Bethenny’s boyfriend will help her run the business. He lost his Wall Street job as an executive at Patriarch Partners, LLC because he appeared on the show.

Jaclyn Smith hosts Shear Genius Much like the marriage of Top Chef and all things Glad, Bravo’s Shear Genius has inked a deal with Nexxus Salon Hair Care to be the sole integrated sponsor of the upcoming season. And we’re talking full immersion here. The salon that houses the competition will be called the “Shear Genius Nexxus Salon.” There will be a Nexxus challenge in the show. The stylists will use only Nexxus products. And the winner of the Shear Genius will receive $100,000 furnished by Nexxus and an apprenticeship with the company.

Get ready to lather, rinse and compete. The second season of SG will premiere on Wednesday June 25th at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Bravo. Jaclyn Smith will host. Celebrity stylist Kim Vo and Allure editor Kelly Atterton will helm the judges table. Rene Fris will be back again as the contestants’ mentor.

Shear Genius is the Bravo’s first original series shot in high definition.

MTV has decided that after a ten-year absence from the west coast, the Video Music Awards will be held this year in Los Angeles. The ceremony will be held on Sunday September 7th at the Paramount Pictures lot in Hollywood.

What? No Kodak Theatre? No Nokia Theatre? So, why the choice to hold the ceremony at a Hollywood studio lot? Entertainment Weekly states, “Expect executive producer Jesse Ignjatovic to make use of many of Paramount’s stages, rooftops, and camera-ready city streets for the star-studded show, which will only air once in its original incarnation.”

I Was Told There'd Be CakeLike everyone else who has read Sloane Crosley’s book of essays I Was Told There’d Be Cake (side note: “there’d” has got to be one of the weirdest words in the world to type and look at), I loved it. She’s been compared to David Sedaris, but that comparison is actually accurate. Also like most men who read the book, I have a tiny bit of a crush on her. I think HBO does too.

The cable network has bought the rights to Cake in the hopes of making a series out of it. There are very few details being released about the possible series, but since Crosley says that the show is going to be more like Curb Your Enthusiasm than Sex and the City, I feel safe in putting this in the “other comedy” category and not “other drama” or “sci-fi.”

Crosley is also a publicist at Vintage Books. Cake is a New York Times Bestseller.

Camp Rock I know you’ve all been wondering if the Jonas Brothers squash the machine that is Zac Efron. Well, they can … kind of. Camp Rock averaged 8.9 million viewers on Friday night. That’s more viewers than High School Musical, which had 7.8 million for its debut. However, 8.9 million pales in comparison to last summer’s 17.2 million (ZOMG!) viewers for High School Musical 2. And it proves that the Efron is unstoppable and more bankable. In fact, High School Musical 2 is the most watched non-sports program on cable.

Joal Ryan of E! On the web points out that Camp Rock could still beat High School Musical overall, “The Jonas Brothers are far bigger stars than Efron or any of his costars were in January 2006, when the first HSM premiered.” He goes to say that the real test of Camp Rock will be if it has the capability to rule the ratings in the inevitable many, many reruns.
