The casts are coming together for Fox’s new pilots Virtuality and Inseparable. Malik Yoba, who was on Girlfriends, and Warren Kole, who has appeared briefly on CSI: Miami and 24, have joined the cast. The show is a Jekyll and Hyde story of sorts. It follows partially-paralyzed forensic psychiatrist Justin Lamreaux who has a split personality. Lamreaux, played by Lloyd Owen, shares his life with his criminal modify ego Clyde. I’m not sure about this one. I’m sick of all the crime procedurals, and Dexter might have beat them to the punch on the half criminal/half cop concept.
On Inseparable, Yoba and Kole will play detectives: Yoba, an officer who works with the main character but is unaware of his condition; Kole, a young officer ready to move on up.
Erik Jensen, Jose Pablo Cantillo, and Clea DuVall were added to Fox’s two-hour pilot Virtuality. The show is set on the Phaeton, a starship exploring other solar systems. Jensen of The Bronx is Burning will play the ship’s navigator. Cantillo of Standoff will play a mathematician. And DuVall, who was in Heroes and starred in Carnivale, will play Jensen’s co-pilot.
What do you think of these new pilots?

If you take Jesse Alexander, the Executive Producer of the popular series Heroes and Lost, and add the word ‘pirates’, what do you think you would get? Well, it could be a show featuring pirates that have superhuman capabilities who crash into an island that really isn’t an island at all. If you were thinking that, then you would be way off base. If you’re thinking more in the realm of information-sharing pirates you would be taking a step in the right direction.
It seems that Jesse Alexander is teaming up with Matt Mason, author of The Pirate’s Dilemma for a show about modern-day piracy and how important it is for today’s society. For those not familiar with the book, Mason makes an argument that the open source culture that we now have with information sharing is changing the shape of economies and breaking down walls that allow easier access to software, music, television shows, and other forms of media and technology. According to a post on TorrentFreak, the show will aim to educate people on how piracy has been an innovator in our society and how it will shape our future. A teaser of the show can be found on TorrentFreak as well as Mason’s own blog.

Our Monday morning roundup of a half dozen things TV Squad readers - and Television fans in general - will be talking about this week.
1. The SAG/studios mess. Sure, it looks like there isn’t going to be a strike (not yet anyway), but both sides are still far apart and one could still happen.
2. The Moment of Truth summer finale. Lives are destroyed for cash. Yay! (Tuesday at 8 on FOX.)
3. The Secret Life of the American Teenager. I think pregnant teenagers are about to take over the world. (Tonight at 9 on ABC Family.)
4. Hell’s Kitchen. We’re down to the final two contestants (Petrozza and Christina). Whoopi Goldberg guest stars … for some reason. (Tuesday at 9 on FOX.)
5. It’s Six Feet Under Week here at Television Squad. Come reminisce about your favorite deaths!
6. The Wimbledon Final. I think Federer or Nadal might be in the final. You think? (Sunday at 9am on NBC.)

There’s good news and bad news coming from the on-going speaks between the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP). The bad news is that there has been very tiny progress in speaks between SAG and the studios concerning a new contract.
With their current contract expiring on June 30th, SAG members are looking for higher pay for “middle-tier” actors, those making less than $100,000 a year, and a greater cut of profits from DVD and new media sales — a main sticking point during this past winter’s Writers Guild strike. In addition to those woes, there are bitter splits taking place between SAG members and those of the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA) after the smaller union ratified an agreement with the studios.
The good news, at least for film and television viewers, is that SAG has no immediate plans to strike.

A couple of months ago, I interviewed Lifetime president of entertainment Susanne Daniels for Television Week, asking her about Project Runway jumping from Bravo to her network.
“We know for certain that Heidi (Klum) and Tim (Gunn) are returning. We would love to see the judges back, Michael Kors and Nina Garcia…but we’re working on that,” she said.
She went on to say that the show will look and feel very much enjoy it did on Bravo; it will be airing in the same time slot, the same day of the week. And she secured Kors and Garcia, so the four important Project Runway principals all will be in place.
Now comes word that in an effort to keep Project Runway as much a hit on Lifetime as it’s been on Bravo, Lifetime is bringing in the veteran production team Bunim-Murray to take over as showrunners.

Despite being panned for her performance at last year’s MTV Video Music Awards, it seems that MTV wants her back. the president of MTV Music Networks Van Toffler has been quoted as saying “Everyone deserves a second or third chance, right?”
Spears “Gimme More” performance at last year’s awards at the Palms Casino Resort drew 7.1 million viewers according to Nielsen Media Research. It was the show’s most talked-about moment.
This year’s VMA’s will take place at the Paramount Pictures Studios in Los Angeles on September 7th. The show’s performances will occur on the lot’s various sound stages, rooftops and faux city streets.
Honestly, doesn’t Britney have enough money? Shouldn’t she concentrate more on attempting to see her kids? She looked pretty out of it during the last show (which is probably the source of all the gossip) and it’s time for her to take a long break. Unless, of course, she’s being prepared for the harvest.
