During the HBO’s panel at the TCA Press Tour, executives Richard Plepler, Co-president, and Michael Lombardo, President of Programming and West Coast Operations, said they’d be interested in doing a Sopranos motion picture and a second Sex and the City motion picture. Plepler stated that Warner Bros. and New Line are definitely interested in doing another Sex and the City motion picture. They’re trying to put something together, but there’s no timeline. “Everyone associated with the project was really heartened by the fans and by the new fans to the show,” Plepler said.
As far as a Sopranos feature goes, Lombardo states HBO would be delighted to take part in it. He states that series creator David Chase is in France on vacation right now but, “If David wants to do it, we’d be delight to explore that.”
When the executives were pressed about Mad Men (rumors are abound that HBO turned down the show and AMC snatched it up), Lombardo said only this, “Heres the bottom line, it’s a wonderful show and I wish it were on HBO. Matt [Weiner is] an breathtaking talent and I hope that one day, he’ll do something for us.”
Would you see another Sex and the City movie? How about a Sopranos motion picture?

It looks like the Krofft brothers Sid and Marty will soon be on MySpace. The 70’s icons will soon be putting their programming on MySpaceTV.
This will include their classic shows such as H.R. Pufnstuf, The Bugaloos and Land of the Lost and will be exclusively shown on the social-networking platform. V.P. of Marketing at MySpace Josh Brooks sees the collaboration as an example of how the site will mine pop-culture nostalgia to build audiences.
The license includes full episodes as well as condensed three to five minute versions (called “Kwikies”) and pre-taped messages from the Kroffts themselves. The Krofft branded channel can be found at myspace.com/Krofft.
I remember watching the Krofft shows as a kiddie. Why are condensed versions of the shows necessary for this channel? Are they really that bad when watched at normal length as an adult? Perhaps nobody has time to watch a full episode anymore. Shows like Electra Woman and Dyna Girl can only be appreciated when watched at full length.

For those of you attending Comic-Con in San Diego, my hat is off to you. After looking at the schedule for the opening day, Thursday, July 24th, it is a wonder that your eyes don’t grow glassy and that vein on the side of your temple doesn’t throb with all of the events listed for that day. For those of you not attending, you may be breathing a sigh of relief that you won’t have to decide what to attend and what to miss.
Granted, we here at TV Squad are only going to Comic-Con to cover the television-related events. Still, there are quite a few of them going on Thursday, starting when the convention opens and ending as the next day creeps into the night. Panels cover the gamut: public television shows, show revivals, anniversary panels about shows that have been revived, and Robert Smigel. So, if you’re going, bring some comfortable shoes, plenty of snacks, and a ton of questions.
If you’re not going, but are still interested in seeing what’s going on in San Diego, here’s a list of TV-related events for the first day of the convention. If you are interested in the complete list of events you can go to Spout blog for Thursday’s full Comic-Con schedule.

The makers of MXC are not happy with the “creative” minds behind ABC’s summer hit Wipeout. Spike initially called out the Wipeout folks in a press release announcing the MXC marathon, “MXC, The Original, Not The Ripoff, Weekend.” Now Larry Strawther, MXC’s executive producer, is upset with ABC and YouTube for removing a video that Strawther released in order to establish Wipeout’s ripoff status.
The video in question is after the jump. Strawther has also accused YouTube of “[altering] the search results algorithm to benefit ABC and punish MXC.” He’s right; a search using the terms “MXC” and “Wipeout” leads you to videos showing motocross wipeouts. Strange.
