VThe 4400 co-creator and producer Scott Peters is remaking the 1980’s V miniseries for ABC. The article expressly says that the original creator, Kenneth Johnson, won’t be involved.

I’m somewhat dreading this remake because Peters states he will pretty much revamp the human story to something absolutely different (although an alien invasion will probably still be involved). The theme of the new version will more be about having blind faith in leadership rather than being an allegory of the Nazi occupation of Germany.

It’s entirely possible this new version would work. The current Battlestar Galactica isn’t very much like its predecessor and represents science fiction at its finest. The original V terrified the crap out of the much younger me. Then the network wussed out with the concept and tried to maximize profits by tacking on a happy-ending sequel miniseries and shortly-lived continuing series.

On the other hand, the revamped Flash Gordon was a pile of suck. Here’s hoping V is superior.

A paltry 63 million viewers tuned into the second Presidential debate.Okay, 63 million viewers shouldn’t be considered ‘measly’. It is almost 25% of the American population after all. Considering a normal show in primetime only garners a few million viewers each week (excluding shows like American Idol) that number is pretty good. And, while it doesn’t compare to the whopping 70 million viewers that tuned into last week’s Vice Presidential debate, the number is higher than the first debate between Senators Obama and McCain which garnered only 54 million viewers.

Why the uptick? Well, I’m no political or media analyst but there are probably a few factors. One is that we’re one week closer to the election and Americans who are on the fence are now starting to take the race more seriously. Another is the rise in interest after the Vice Presidential debate (which, to me, seemed so rushed it gave me a headache). A third could be the format that the debate took place under — a town hall style where both moderator and audience were able to ask questions. Unfortunately, moderator Tom Brokaw asked more of the questions than the audience, which made the ‘Town Hall’ format somewhat pointless.

The extended outlook for Weather Plus is phase outThis was bound to happen. When NBC Universal decided to buy The Weather Channel earlier this year I’m sure there were some questions as to how this would affect the network’s Weather Plus operation. You mean you don’t know about Weather Plus? Sure you do! It’s the 4-year old digital content operation that paired the network with their affiliates to air its content on their digital channels. It’s also what MSNBC and CNBC have been using the last few years during times of severe weather.

Well, the answer to if both Weather Plus and The Weather Channel would be run simultaneously has been answered: they won’t. NBC News President Steve Capus said Weather Plus operation would be phased out in stages through the end of the year, affecting both on- and off-air staff. There is no word if any of the Weather Plus technology or staff will be integrated into other aspects of the News division or into TWC in general.

The AvengersI’m not referring to Emma Peel and John Steed. Apparently there’s a new cartoon heading to TV based on the Marvel Comics superhero team of the same name. Is it just me, or are the characters’ shapes reminiscent of the excellent Batman, Superman and Justice League cartoons from recent years?

Obviously, this is crossover marketing with the Marvel-financed movies that are coming out using the “shared universe” approach that was popular in their comics. Movies like Iron Man, Thor, and The First Avenger: Captain America (while I understand the marketing behind “The First Avenger” tag, I don’t really like its use) are leading up to The Avengers movie in which all the aforementioned superheroes appear on the same screen.
